- These spicy oyster crackers a great quick snack to whip up with minimal mess and clean-up. I love quick recipes that won’t keep me in the kitchen for too long.
- You can easily follow this recipe, no matter your skill level in the kitchen! It’s just simple ingredients and a few easy steps.

Ingredients for Seasoned Oyster Crackers
- Oyster Crackers – You can use oyster crackers or saltine crackers! Just know that saltines may change the amount of seasoning and oil you may need.
- Canola Oil – I prefer to use canola oil in this recipe, but you could you use olive oil or vegetable oil as well.
- Taco Seasoning – Use your favorite packet of taco seasoning or you can make your own. Use spicy taco seasoning to add extra kick to this recipe or just stick to the mild seasoning to keep it flavorful without all of the spice.
- Garlic Powder – Garlic powder elevates the flavor of these crackers and makes them extra yum! It’s the best addition, even if your taco seasoning already has some garlic in it!
- Chili Powder – Using chili powder will give these spicy oyster crackers a little bit of kick. Feel free to omit this if you are not a fan of spice.
- Dried Oregano – I love adding a touch of dried oregano to this taco oyster crackers recipe to help bring out the other flavors. It brings a nice little herby flavor to the crackers.

How to make Taco Oyster Crackers
- Place your oyster crackers into a clean, large, mixing bowl.
- Mix all of your seasonings together in a large bowl until everything is thoroughly combined. Add the oil and mix it in well.
- Next, pour the mixture over the crackers and stir until every cracker is thoroughly covered.
- Spread the seasoned oyster crackers onto a baking sheet and bake for 20 minutes, stirring halfway through the bake.
- Allow to the crackers to cool completely and then get to munching!
Storage Tips for Taco Oyster Crackers
Store in an airtight container or plastic zip top bag with the air squeezed out. Store at room temperature for about a week. I do not recommend storing them in the refrigerator or freezer.
My crackers turned out too spicy. What can I change?
If your crackers are too spicy, then just omit the chili powder and be sure you use a mild taco seasoning. Unfortunately, there is no way to change the spice level on the crackers after they are already baked. So it may be a little trial and error if you end up with spicy crackers. Just try more mild seasonings on the next batch!
More Snacks to Pair with taco oyster crackers
These taco oyster crackers are the perfect crunchy pairing with a gooey cheese quesadilla. I also love to pair them with snacks like pizza crescent rolls and air fryer english muffin pizzas.
If you need an easy school lunch, then send your kiddos with these taco crackers and something tasty like a DIY uncrustable or ham and cheese roll ups!

I added a bag of the gold fish crackers (I used pizza flavor of fish) to the oyster crackers and made according to instructions; stirring every 5 minutes. A person probably could also add some Cheeze-It crackers. Delightful!
It’s one of them recipes that you could add – in whatever you want; pretzels, nuts, etc.Reply

I did forget to mention that each time I stir the mixture, I also rotate my pan.

I had no problem with the 20 minutes (stirring after 10 minutes) in my oven. Crackers tasted great but I think I would double the chili, oregano, and garlic to give it a little more kick. Will definitely make again!Reply

Recipe needs to be modified. Cooking time/temp too long/high. As other reviews stated, they burned before cook time was even finished. Went right in the trash.

I’m sorry to hear that! All ovens heat differently, I’ll have to test this recipe again, I didn’t have an issue with the 20 minute time.

I agree 20 minutes is too long. I did 6 minutes to stir and then 4 more minutes

Two, you can use three, but the taco flavor will be less.

These tasted amazing until I put them in the oven. 20 minutes was way too long. They’re burnt ?

Same thing here! Taste was absolutely amazing while we were snacking on them before putting them in the oven, but 20 minutes was absolutely too long. Now they just taste burned. Will definitely make again and shortened to about 10 minutes in the ovenReply

Are these possible in the crockpot instead?

Julie, Thank you for the recipe for these snacks! They sound wonderful and I am going to try them. I love the ranch flavored oyster crackers so I am sure my family will love these as well. I do have to say however, your blog is so full of advertising, I could barley read your post through all of the ads. It is unfortunate because I do love your posts, but I may have to delete my subscription. I understand having some advertising helps pay your way but I was overwhelmed! Sorry.

Hi Gail! I’m sorry you feel that way. I do my best to optimize readers experience as much as possible. Would you mind sharing with me if you were reading my blog through a mobile device, tablet or on desktop? My ads differ between the options so that would help me! Thanks!

Julie, I was on my desktop when I viewed this. Now that you say that, I usually am on my tablet and don’t have that problem! It was a Sephora ad that kept popping up and when I would try to minimize it, it would pop up again making it very annoying to read your post! I don’t want to sound mean because I love your blog and “Pin” several things off of it but it really got to me! 🙂 Thanks for concern and wanting to check it out!
Julie Evink says
That would be annoying! I’ll let my ad managers know! Sorry about that!
