Yusuf Mehdi, a bigwig at Microsoft, says they're rewriting the entire OS around AI to create the ultimate AI PC. And this is the part most people miss: Microsoft believes we'll soon be talking to our computers, and Copilot will do our bidding.
"You should be able to talk to your PC, and magic should happen," says Mehdi. With Copilot's Voice and Vision capabilities, Microsoft is making this a reality. A simple "Hey, Copilot!" will wake up your PC, and it'll understand and act on your commands.
We've seen this before with Cortana, but Microsoft is confident AI will change our behavior. "People love using voice commands," says Mehdi, pointing to the billions of minutes spent talking in Microsoft Teams. He believes the shift to talking with our PCs is inevitable.
But here's the catch: for AI to control our PCs, it needs access to our screens. Copilot Vision, a new feature, scans your screen and offers help with apps, troubleshooting, and even gaming guidance. It's like having a personal assistant right on your desktop.
And it doesn't stop there. Copilot Actions lets Microsoft's AI assistant take local actions, like editing photos. This is a big step, and Microsoft is being cautious, testing these actions on a limited scale. "AI might make mistakes," admits Navjot Virk, another Microsoft exec. But they're committed to learning and improving.
Copilot Actions runs in a secure, contained environment, and you can watch it work its magic in the background. Microsoft is also integrating Copilot into the Windows taskbar, making it easier to access these AI features.
Despite the Recall fiasco, Microsoft is pushing ahead with TV ads showcasing these new AI features. They want us to see Windows 11 PCs as true partners, not just tools.
