Feeling the pinch this holiday season? You're not alone! The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) has released some interesting news about the prices of our favorite Noche Buena goodies. Let's dive in.
According to a recent report, out of 256 holiday food items, a significant 129 managed to hold steady on price. That's good news! However, 95 items saw a slight increase. The DTI attributes these changes to the rising costs of ingredients, packaging, and labor.
This update is part of the DTI's price guide, released on Sunday, and it's all in line with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s efforts to keep holiday essentials affordable for Filipino families.
But here's where it gets interesting... The DTI also announced price rollbacks on six specific items! These reductions came after consultations with manufacturers. Here's the breakdown:
- CDO American style ham 500g: from PHP174 to PHP170
- King Sue piña ham 800g: from PHP527 to PHP520
- King Sue piña ham 1kg: from PHP643 to PHP637
- King Sue sweet ham 800g: from PHP450 to PHP449
- Danes queso de bola 500g: from PHP310 to PHP300
- Sunshine sweet style spaghetti sauce 500g: from PHP52 to PHP48.50
Secretary Cristina A. Roque stated that the DTI is working hard to make sure essential goods and holiday items remain accessible. The price freeze on basic necessities is still in effect.
